Spent several hours this morning at the beach. Some kids were playing jump rope with a piece of giant kelp that washed up, meanwhile I was doing this.

Raw Umber, PB29 and PO49 on Fabriano Artistico Rough 140lb. This is about 6″ x 5″ in my sketchbook. First image is the sketch in progress, with some beach sand strewn in the wet paint, to provide texture. Here’s the finish, with the sand brushed off:

On another note, surfers make good subjects for life drawing studies. My skills in that department are not at all ready for prime time, though!
