Birds in my Sketchbook

sketchbook-3-061612aPainting from some internet references, in my sketchbook.

Both are about 6″ x 9″ , the first on Arches 140lb rough, and the second on Richeson 140lb CP. I like the rough a lot!

The first is a Purple Honeycreeper head study.

And the other is a Copper-Rumped hummingbird. Looking at many internet images, those droopy wings appear to be the bird’s natural stance when perched. It looks a little sad to me, but… those colors!

Not as happy with the second bird, it’s a little overworked, but such a lovely subject. My apologies for the crummy scans, the sketchbook didn’t lay very flat in the scanner.
